Sandwich: Canvas For Creativity

A sandwich is an easy way out when I can’t come up with a more creative idea for a meal. I’m also likely to use a sandwich as an excuse to slip in some cheese. After all, what is a sandwich without cheese unless, of course, there is none on hand?

I have never made a trip to the grocery store specifically to purchase ingredients for a sandwich. A sandwich is usually put together using ingredients which happen to be available. A sandwich is a canvas for creativity – creativity by necessity. Limited resources have inspired all kinds of unusual combinations, some of which have become mainstream. Maybe someday peanut butter and sauerkraut sandwiches will become mainstream.

The ingredients for the avocado spread were:

  • avocado
  • feta cheese
  • ricotta cheese
  • blanched fresh spinach
  • apple cider vinegar
  • moringa powder
  • spinach powder
  • salt
  • pinch of citric acid
  • sliced green onions (added after blending)

The avocado spread went on a toasted hoagie roll…

…followed by cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, Muenster cheese and Colby Jack cheese.

Building a sandwich is easy. Holding it together throughout the eating process is a skill I have yet to master.
