Garden Salad

Today we enjoyed the first salad of the year made mostly of things growing in the garden. As I often do, I just washed the vegetables and laid them out on the counter for each person to tear into bite sized pieces and assemble their own salad. Ingredients from the garden were:

  • parsley
  • spinach
  • tender young radish leaves
  • lettuce
  • Red Russian kale (no collusion, I promise)
  • cilantro
  • asparagus
  • green onion
  • chives and chive blossoms
  • basil (not pictured)

Store bought items were:

  • mushrooms
  • red and yellow sweet peppers
  • tomatoes
  • halved and pitted kalamata olives

I looking forward to the time of year when trips to the grocery store are less frequent, with barely a glance at the produce department.

    1. The cherry tomatoes were not homegrown but they were delicious. They are called flavor bombs and were greenhouse grown. The package said, “product of USA,” but it had an Ontario, Canada address.
